Annual Education Report for the 2022-23 School Year

Educator Qualifications


Identifies teacher qualifications to requirements. Here you can find how many teachers in a school, district or across the state possess specific qualifications.
Student Assessment


Presents assessment information for English language arts and mathematics for grades 3 to 8 and 11, and science for grades 4, 7 and 11, compared to targets for all students as well as subgroups of students. The report helps users understand achievement progress within grades and schools, and to make comparisons to the district, state and national achievement benchmarks.
Accountability


Uses information from assessments, graduation and attendance rates, and school quality measures, to determine if the school is meeting accountability targets. Here you can identify how well your school is serving the overall academic needs of students. More information about school accountability is available on the MDE Accountability page.
NAEP


NAEP administers a state level assessment in Mathematics and Reading every two years. The most current results are from 2022.
Sec. 1003 School Improvement Funds




Identifies schools implementing comprehensive support and improvement (CSI), targeted support and improvement (TSI) or additional targeted support (ATS) plans. Here you will find a list of all schools that received section 1003 school improvement funds, including the amount of funds each school received and the types of strategies implemented in each school with such funds. Under Section 1003 of the Every Student Succeeds Act, districts with schools identified for school improvement, corrective action and restructuring under Section 1116 of Title I, Part A may be awarded supplemental funds to support efforts and initiatives aimed at raising student academic achievement. 

Instructions and Responsibilities

To fulfill the state’s requirements for an annual education report, the district and schools will need to add the following components: process for assigning pupils to the school, the status of the 3-5 year school improvement plan, a brief description of each specialized school, identify how to access a copy of core curriculum implementation and variances from state’s model, aggregate student achievement results, parent-teacher conference data, and (for high schools only) number and percent of postsecondary enrollments (dual enrollment), number of college equivalent courses offered, number and percentage of students enrolled in college equivalent courses (AP/IB), and the number and percent of students receiving a score leading to college credit. Linking Reports to District and School Web Pages




The reports can be easily linked to a local school or district web page and can be printed and distributed with a cover letter to fulfill all annual education report requirements of ESSA.





Authorized Access for Cover Letters




The AER requires authorization for access to the template cover letters. If you do not have a username and password and would like to access the template cover letters, please contact your local ISD/RESA Curriculum or Technical Contact.

School-Level Expenditure Report: Breaks down expenditures of federal, state and local funds for districts - local educational agencies and public school academies (charter schools) - in the state for each fiscal year. This report publishes expenditures at the school level.

WIDA Proficiency: Provides information regarding the proficiency of English Learners, by count and percent, on the WIDA assessment.

Student Growth: Provides information regarding a student’s growth over time.

School Index: Provides information on school quality and student success metrics in the areas of on-track attendance, K-8 access to arts/physical education, K-8 access to librarian/media specialist, 11/12 advanced coursework, and postsecondary enrollment.

Postsecondary Enrollment: Shows the number of Michigan public high school graduates who enrolled in a college or university.

Graduation/Dropout Rate: Shows the public high school students, by count or percent, who graduated or dropped out of school.

WIDA Students Not Tested (downloadable file): Identifies the English Language students exempted from the first year of ELA assessment.

Civil Rights Data Collection (downloadable file): The U.S. Department of Education conducts the Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC) to collect data on key education and civil rights issues in our nation’s public schools. The CRDC collects a variety of information, including student enrollment and educational programs and services, most of which are disaggregated by race/ethnicity, gender, limited English proficiency, and disability.
